Regulations made by the Father General in response to the Vice-Provincial's visit and his report thereon. The rules concern the regulation of timetables in relation to ‘the duties of the day’, such as prayer, meditation, Masses, confessions etc., as well as mealtimes. There is an emphasis on obedience to authority, as well as economy, and a certain amount of disengagement from secular life. It is noted that the ‘Spirit of the Rule…is quite inconsistent with unnecessary visits to persons of the other sex’.

Thanks the latter for purchasing the two milch cows, but explains that his (Hughes’) superior, the Provincial Fr Brown, did not want the two store heifers that were purchased at the same time, and that he had already made this fact clear to Fr McCartan. Sends the latter a cheque for the cows.

A file relating to the controversy surrounding the Apostolic and Lay Schools, Mungret College and the separation of the two schools following intervention by the Bishop of Limerick and a Decree of Propaganda. Includes correspondence relating to the valuation of the property and the question of the ownership of the Mungret property. Includes a certificate of valuation (25 June 1921, 7pp) and various financial accounts. Includes a ground floor plan and front elevation of Mungret College. Finally, in 1928 a further session of the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith decided the transference of the Lay School should not be insisted on but that the two schools should be administered separately (21 April 1928, 1p). Includes letters from Michael Curly, Archbishop of Baltimore offering his support to Mungret College. Francis Cruise, the author of a 1904 translation of 'The Imitation of Christ'. (This material was found among the papers of Fr William A. Sutton SJ, the connection between it and F. Sutton is unknown.
