Gives some background history from 1829 - 1884 and a photograph of Fr Thomas Kelly SJ. Includes information such as: members of the community and records the arrival of new members and the departure of the old, illnesses, deaths and funerals, novenas, feasts, building work carried out to the buildings and church notices. Also contains several insertions, some loose and some pasted onto notebook pages including; newspaper cuttings of special ceremonies, advent, calendars and retreats. Letter from Fr William McCartan to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. States that he is not satisfied with the latter's letter, and claims that he had told Fr Brown that he intended to purchase five heifers. Complains that he was never treated in such a manner before.

Copy of letter from Fr Patrick Hughes SJ, writing from St Francis Xavier's, Upper Gardiner Street, Dublin to Fr William McCartan. Thanks the latter for purchasing the two milch cows, but explains that his (Hughes’) superior, the Provincial Fr Brown, did not want the two store heifers that were purchased at the same time, and that he had already made this fact clear to Fr McCartan. Sends the latter a cheque for the cows.

Letter from Fr William McCartan, writing from the Parochial House, Dromore, County Down, to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. Objects to the latter having found fault with his purchase of cattle for Fr Hughes’ community, and claims that he would profit by the purchase.

Regulations for the community issued by Fr Robert St Leger SJ, Vice Provincial, in compliance with an ordination of the Father General regarding Holy Poverty.

Regulations in relation to mealtimes, times of confessions, prayer, and Masses, dining out, accounts, cases of conscience etc.

Regulations made by the Father General in response to the Vice-Provincial's visit and his report thereon. The rules concern the regulation of timetables in relation to ‘the duties of the day’, such as prayer, meditation, Masses, confessions etc., as well as mealtimes. There is an emphasis on obedience to authority, as well as economy, and a certain amount of disengagement from secular life. It is noted that the ‘Spirit of the Rule…is quite inconsistent with unnecessary visits to persons of the other sex’.

Notes on Killiney Castle and Druid Lodge, Killiney, County Dublin by Fr Fergal McGrath SJ, (former Irish Province Archivist) referring to a letter he received from Miss Mary Purcell, 32 Gardiner Place, Dublin 1 (whose letter is also contained in this file). Fr McGrath traces the use of Killiney Castle by the Society of Jesus (nd, 1p). Includes a letter from Mary Purcell to Fr McGrath concerning the sale of Killiney Castle to the St John of God Brothers, France. Another property is also referred to by Miss Purcell who discovered this reference in a minute of a council meeting of the Brothers of St John of God but it is unclear if this other property also belonged to the Society of Jesus. The St John of God Brothers did not continue negotiations with the Society (18 August 1977, 2pp).

Correspondence relating to the purchase of Baymount, later known as Manresa House, by the Jesuit Fathers. Includes letters from James O'Connor, solicitor, to Fr John Coyne SJ, relating to the erection of a new boundary wall and the maintenance of a drain on Sea Road (Clontarf Road).
