– letters from Fr Hugh Kelly SJ (Rector, Rathfarnham Castle) and Fr Patrick O'Kelly SJ (Director of the Pioneers Association) reporting complaints about Fr Sheil’s behaviour with regard to the content of his lectures to secondary school girls, his running of the Sodalities in Galway and his comments to a young girl who came to him for religious instruction (17 November - 20 December 1942, 4 items);

Many details of organization have still to be put into practice. The walls are built but the roof is not yet on. However there is plenty of brains and holiness among the men and women engaged in the work. A file relating to the road widening scheme at Rathfarnham and work carried out by Dublin Corporation on part of the boundary wall of Rathfarnham Castle and the subsequent problems that arose due to the Corporation's failure to complete the work. Includes a letter from Tom Bacon, Solicitor (acting on behalf of the Jesuit Fathers), 9 Clare Street, Dublin to Fr McDonald SJ Remarks 'This matter has taken a new and interesting turn... Mr Beausang (Dublin Corporation).. .explained his predicament. Apparently in his final anxiety to get the work through he agreed our terms without obtaining any additional estimates as to the cost... Mr Beausang states that there is a deficiency of at least £7,000...There is no fund out of which this deficiency can be met...Mr Beausang's first suggestion was that the Jesuit Fathers would make a grant to the corporation of half the increased cost namely £3,500. When he was told that this was out of the question it was then suggested that you might disclaim the acquisition money £2,000.' (11 October 1956, 3pp).

Includes letters regarding going to Belfast in 1945 for medical examination, a letter from Fr Edmund D'Arcy SJ, 114 Mount Street, London to Irish Fr Provincial expressing his concern over Fr McSweeney. Remarks that Fr Blount, senior army chaplain , came to see him and said that he considered Fr McSweeney. to be '...very weary and ought to be brought home'. (28 July 1948, 2pp).

Notebooks concerning the workings and the measurements of ‘The O'Leary Seismograph’ at Rathfarnham Castle, Dublin. The first notebook (1946-1957) includes diagrams and details of the pendulum, suspension: trifilar workings of the seismograph. Includes inserts: ‘Fr M Murphy was present and helped erect the pendulum. He was in Rathfarnham, for (at worst) October 1916 to September 1917. Fr Hayes was also present. Fr O'Connell says 1915 work was started’; note from Fr Richard Ingram SJ to Mr Patrick Heelan SJ inviting him to measure the static mag. of O’Leary’. The second notebook records the measurements of the seismograph at Rathfarnham Castle (4 January 1948-May 1953). It has the names of Jesuit Juniors John Moore, Michael Kelly, Hubert Delaney, Albert Diviney and Paul McShane. Notebooks found in the basement (villa room) of Milltown Park, 2014.
