Letter from James O'Shaughnessy to Fr Robert St Leger SJ (Vice-Provincial), Upper Gardiner Street, Dublin concerning Fr Gahan's will. Remarks that he has only found a copy of the will and remarks 'I look upon the case a quite a hopeless one.' Continues 'The original will and whatever title deeds were in existence, I conclude from these letters, went into the possession of Father Aylmer - what became of them since there is nothing to inform us.' Concludes 'Should you think it necessary to write to this gentleman now in the Isle of Man to Dr Briggs or to any other of the inheritors, I take the liberty of telling you not to do so, till you previously allow me to wait on you…'

Typed text from a copy of an original letter from Edmund Rice to Fr Peter Kenney SJ, Clongowes Wood College, County Kildare asking for news from Clongowes. Remarks that he and others are confused '...on account of this Roman Rescript on the Veto.' Continues 'It is considered here that the treatment was most contemptible to the Irish Bishops, Clergy and people.' Refers to Fr St Leger's family who '...are teasing me to write to you to know do you expect him. The Bishop told me it would be well to know as if there was no expectation of him that the matter should be broken to his poor mother.'

Includes a letter from [ ] to Fr Joseph Hurley SJ concerning material on Fr Robert St Leger for Fr Francis Finegan SJ so that he can write an article or articles on Fr St Leger for his centenary. Remarks '...in preparing the chronology of Fr. St. L. principally from the 'Memorials of the Irish Province', I have come across some very serious anomalies as regards dates.' (3 October 1955, 1p) (NB: Fr St Leger was the first Rector of Tullabeg). Includes a letter from [ ] to Fr Burke Savage SJ referring to Fr St Leger's Rectorship of Tullabeg and '...a somewhat mysterious problem connected with the Rectorship...1818-1831.' (5 October 1955, 1p).

Explains fully the situation. Discusses and defends his position in the matter. Refers to three accusations levelled at him. Remarks that he wrote nine or ten times to the General 'I then got from him a letter full of accusations, of this I do not complain but I complain that all these accusations were considered just and I felt myself to have been condemned before my cause was examined.'
