Refers to William Bliss' desire to have all of his children brought up in the Catholic faith 'To be thus bereft of her children one by one, will break the mother's heart; it will certainly not win her to her husband's religion; and will necessitate proceedings which will create domestic discord and probably bring this scandal before the world.' Refers to Fr Aylmer’s presence on the island, and undertakes to relieve him as soon as possible. Asks Fr Bracken to forward him a statement in relation to property due to the Society.

Reports that Fr Aylmer and Dr Youens have corresponded on the subject of the property and debts of the Mission. Also reports that he has been attempting to secure someone to relieve Fr Aylmer on the island.

Thanks the latter for his letter detailing his visit to the Isle of Man, and gives permission for the new chapel at Douglas to be used for divine service, on certain conditions. Wishes also to have a written assurance from ‘Dr. Kenny’ to the effect that the conditions would be complied with.

Letter from Bishop of Meath, Matthew Gaffney to Irish Fr Provincial James F Murphy SJ. Asks him to designate a priest to give the diocesan retreat in the following July if he (the Provincial) cannot do it. Includes note written by the Provincial stating that he promised that Fr [Reidy] would give the retreat if at all possible.

Remarks that because the habeas corpus act has not been sanctioned by the legislators he is going to postpone his visit. Remarks 'I have often thought of you and even expected to be in a situation to relieve your wants; whenever my hopes are realised I will not overlook you.'

Letter from Bishop Thomas Furlong to Dr O'Reilly. Asks him to provide a retreat at Milltown Park, Dublin for four young men whom Bishop Furlong intends to ordain at the end of the month.

Letter from Thomas Penswick, Liverpool to Fr Matthew Gahan SJ, Douglas, Isle of Man concerning a conveyance he obtained in Ireland from William MacPharlan which he gave to Frances Duff, Isle of Man to have it legally completed. Remarks that this was never done and that he feels the conveyance is, as a result, of no value. Remarks 'You will use your own discretion in your settlement with the General (Goldie), his demands can never be very overwhelming.'

Proposes to bring out the next issue himself '...I therefore beg to request you to inform me whether you make any objection to my doing so...In making this proposal you will understand that I do not intend to consider you liable in respect of that No. either for pecuniary loss or literary responsibility...' Concludes 'You will no doubt recollect that our agreement contains an undertaking on your part to use your best exertions to relieve Mr Richards and myself from such loss as we might sustain in this business...'
