File containing extensive documentation concerning the will of Charles Kennedy and his bequest to the Society of Jesus. The Society used the proceeds from this bequest to construct University Hall, Hatch Street. The extent of the file can be explained by the numerous properties owned by Charles Kennedy and the necessary documentation that inevitably accompanies ownership of property, receipts and vouchers from professional companies involved in the construction of University Hall and the fact that the will of Charles Kennedy was contested by his brother Frank Kennedy. His legal action was unsuccessful (29 January 1909 & 30 January 1909 & 30 May 1912, 3 items).

Includes a letter from Fr Joseph Delia SJ, St. Aloysius College, B’Raia, Malta to Irish Fr Provincial informing him that at the last minute ‘...the Rev. gentleman, who was to leave the Chair of Philosophy, changed his mind and is now determined to continue to lecture at the University.’ Expresses his regret at the situation ‘Your Reverence cannot imagine how frightfully disappointed His Grace and myself feel about this whole business, as we both realize what a disgraceful figure we are both cutting before his Paternity, Your Reverence and Father Little. Kavanagh of 57 Merrion Square in the City of Dublin, builders on behalf of the Purchasers, and by which Mullan agreed to the sale to the Purchasers for the sum of £2,925 of the above premises for all the residue of the term of 150 years set down in a lease of 1870, and consideration of the said sum paid by the Purchasers to the Vendor, the latter, as personal representative of James Johnston Mullan, deceased, assigns and conveys unto the purchasers the above property, to hold for all the unexpired residue of the term of 150 years, subject to the rent of £125, and to the covenants and conditions in the 1870 lease, and subject to the sub-leases set out in an accompanying schedule.
