Account book of Irish Jesuit property. Includes a description of the finances of the Irish Mission account, written by Fr John Fullam SJ. Remarks 'In 1760 this mission had in Paris a capital of £1000 ster. including the deposits of individuals and what belonged to different residences. By the persecution which ensued the whole was nearly despaired of when by Fr Crookshank's activity and cleverness about half that sum was recovered and transmitted to Ireland where Mr Ward placed it as occasions presented.'

Notes on the will of Fr John Austin by Fr Thomas Betagh contained in 'Directorium ad rite legendas horas canónicas missasque celebrandas' (Bernard McMahon Press, Dublin, with P. Wogan, & P. Bean, No. 23, Old Bridge, 1783). Includes:

• Memoranda of my Executorship under Mr Austin's will;
• accounts to Mary Ann Austin, daughter of Richard Austin deceased, apprentice to Mary Magennis,1784;
• accounts to Mary Austin, daughter of Joseph Austin, sent to Miss Mullaly's school 1785, travelled to Spain 1786. Returned from Spain without serving her indented time and arrived in Dublin, 15 May 1788;
• accounts to Francis Austin, son of Richard Austin, apprentice to a Glover, 1787;
• accounts Jane Austin, daughter of Joseph Austin, apprentice to Catherine Collins, Ribb and weaver, 1787;
• accounts Teresa Austin, daughter of Joseph Austin, apprentice to a Glover, but discharged for disagreeing with her mistress, 1787;

Unsigned letter in [Fr. Betagh's handwriting] to [ ] Fortescue congratulating him on his success. Remarks 'nothing but the R. Catholick Bill can carry me to Dublin, and that, I fear, will not be agitated.' Discusses the expensive chapels in poor monasteries on the continent.

Letter from Thaddeus Brzozowski to Thomas Betagh.

Letter from Fr Thomas Betagh to Fr Marmaduke Stone SJ. Relates that four years previously Fr Callaghan had discussed with Archbishop Troy the fund of the ex-Jesuits in Ireland. Refers to a letter from Cardinal di Pietro to Troy on the matter, of which a copy is transcribed on the same document.

Copy of letter from Cardinal di Pietro to Fr Marmaduke Stone SJ. Refers to the appeal made by the prelates of Ireland to Rome in relation to the will of the late Fr Richard Callaghan. Claims that the latter, according to an oath sworn on 23 August 1793, should have left his property to Fr Betagh, and not to Stone. Demands that Stone transmit to Rome an authentic copy of the Pope’s alleged rescript, by which Callaghan believed himself to legitimately free to dispose of the funds of the ex-Jesuits in favour of Stone (In Italian). Letter appears on same document as a copy of the reply to it from Fr Stone, and a copy of an excerpt of a letter from Fr Stone to Archbishop Troy.

Manuscript by an unknown author concerning the Trinitarian Orphan Society founded by Fr Thomas Betagh in 1796.

Copy of a typescript entitled ‘Past and Present. Mainly a Retrospect’ by Fr Joseph McDonnell SJ [from the Memorials of the Irish Province?], concerning Fr Thomas Betagh SJ and the history of the early Restored Society of Jesus in Ireland. Incomplete.

Notes from Hardiman's "Irish Ministry…" (1831) compiled by Fr Fergal McGrath SJ on Fanny Betagh, wife of James Betagh of Maurin, County Mayo - the head of a branch of the ancient family of that name. Fanny was celebrated in a poem by Carolan.
