File containing extensive documentation concerning the will of Charles Kennedy and his bequest to the Society of Jesus. The Society used the proceeds from this bequest to construct University Hall, Hatch Street. The extent of the file can be explained by the numerous properties owned by Charles Kennedy and the necessary documentation that inevitably accompanies ownership of property, receipts and vouchers from professional companies involved in the construction of University Hall and the fact that the will of Charles Kennedy was contested by his brother Frank Kennedy. His legal action was unsuccessful (29 January 1909 & 30 January 1909 & 30 May 1912, 3 items).

‘Novices’ Pensions’ - Lists novices, the amount of their annual pensions, number of years in noviceship, and observations.

Volume of minutes of committee meetings of the Dublin Food Supply Society (DFSS), a society with which Fr Thomas Finlay SJ was associated and whose object was the supply of cheap food to the poor of Dublin in difficulties due to either the Great War or the ‘local Irish situation’. Fr Thomas Finlay SJ, who had previously worked with Sir Horace Plunkett in the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society, established the Dublin Food Supply Company (1916-1926) at a meeting in the Royal Hibernian Academy, Lincoln Place.

The following individuals became part of the Dublin Food Supply Company committee: Lady Frances Moloney (Chairperson) (in 1918, she became one of the founders of the Missionary Sisters of St Columban), Miss Conroy, Miss Janet Cunningham, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Cogan, Mrs O'Brien, Mr McKee, Mr Fallon, Mr Desmond O'Brien, Mr Cruise O'Brien, Mr Michael J. Dillon and Mr W.A. Ryan. It was agreed that 4 Killarney Street (later transferred to 10 Lower Gloucester Street) should be taken temporarily as a shop, from Monday 18 December 1916. The society had £137 in their account and Fr Tom Finlay SJ was able to source ten gallons of milk, Lady Moloney secured a half a ton of potatoes and Mr O'Brien, bags for the potatoes from IAWS. The milk crisis of 1917 resulted in the Corporation of Dublin requesting that the Dublin Food Supply Company take over the distribution of the milk supply previously provided by them. By 1918, depots where food and milk could be bought were located at: Grattan Street; Francis Street (later transferred to 88 Thomas Street); North King Street and Old Camden Street. By 1924, further properties were bought at Gloucester Place Upper; Middle Gardiner Street and No. 1 Pimlico, parish of St. Catherine, city of Dublin to ‘carry on business solely for the purpose of supplying to the poor, all or any manner of household supplies at such a price and no greater over and above the wholesale price as will cover rents and other costs of distribution’. In February 1925, the Dublin Food Supply Company was running a deficit and the falling off in trade due to the business depression resulted in the ceasing of operations in 1926.

States that Mr Glover ‘still lingers at Rome’, and reports that luminous crosses have been visible for months over summits of the Masques of the Turks in a city in Bulgaria. Refers to the failure of St. Francis’ Bill, and to ‘Orange Bigots’. Gives a brief statement of accounts.

Letter from Fr Edward Scott SJ, writing from London, to an unnamed Irish Jesuit father. Reminds the latter of debts to be paid, and informs him of his activities in relation to the accounts, including the payment to Fr Jennesseaux of an amount of money. Begs to relinquish his role as agent. Encloses his correspondent’s account with the Rector of F[ ]bough (not included).

Documents relating to the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart founded by Fr James Cullen SJ. Includes: correspondence between the Irish Fr Provincial, the office of the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr John Charles McQuaid and Fr Seán McCarron SJ of the P.T.A.A.; memoranda concerning minutes of meetings, annual reports and statistics. A file relating to 'St Stephen's', the magazine of the University College, Dublin and the Catholic University School of Medicine, Cecilia Street, Dublin and the removal of the medallion from the cover of the magazine, and insertion of the Catholic University of Ireland. Includes a letter from Joseph Brennan, Honorary Secretary to the Representative Council, Catholic University School of Medicine to Fr William Delany SJ referring to the medallion. Remarks, ‘..it was not their (the Representative Council) intention to substitute a medallion of the Catholic University for the existing medallion. Their object simply was to remove the false impression conveyed by the wording of the medallion, that the magazine belonged exclusively or mainly to the students of University College, and was not the joint organ of the students of University College and of the Catholic University School of Medicine.’ (22 March 1906, 2pp). Fr William Delany SJ established St Stephen's, as a magazine for University College, Dublin, and not for the Catholic University of Ireland. Includes list of subscribers to 'St. Stephen's' (March 1906) and accounts (1905-06).

This disagreement seems to precipitate the end of 'St. Stephen's : a record of University life', Vol. II No. 12 (May, 1906).
